LaBatte Simmentals is a fourth-generation family farm established in 1912. Brenda and I operate a mixed
grain and livestock operation along with our son, Lynlee, his wife, Hayley and their three sons, Brodyn,
Jory and Zayne.
There have always been livestock on the farm. I bought my first Simmental, a half blood heifer, at the
first Canadian Western Agribition sale in 1971, starting LaBatte Simmentals. We’ve since continued
purchasing and breeding cattle we think will advance our program. Brenda and I were married in 1975 and
have two children. Our son Lynlee and his wife, Hayley, have three sons, Brodyn, Jory and Zayne. Our
daughter Janalee and her husband, Tim (DeBruyne), operate their own farm 25 miles from our place. They
have three daughters, Emry, Jenna and Sierra.
Simmental genetics are very popular with the commercial producer, feedlot operator and packing plants
these days. They are very high in maternal traits, have superior performance in the feedlot, have
excellent carcass value, and superior dispositions. LaBatte Simmentals strives to produce functional,
productive and profitable seed stock for our commercial customers and the beef industry. Our breeding
philosophy emphasizes performance, fertility, ease of fleshing, disposition, calving ease, and udder
quality, along with the ability to wean a heavy calf under range conditions, year after year. These
naturally thick, heavily-muscled, deep bodied cattle that flesh easy and gain rapidly, are simply the
most efficient, functional and profitable cattle in the industry. Our herd bulls have been sourced from
across North America, and can be viewed by clicking on the "Sires" link at the top right of this page.
