LaBatte Simmentals is a fourth-generation family farm established in 1912. Brenda and I operate a mixed
grain and livestock operation along with our son, Lynlee, his wife, Hayley and their three sons, Brodyn,
Jory and Zayne.
There have always been livestock on the farm. I bought my first Simmental, a half blood heifer, at the
first Canadian Western Agribition sale in 1971, starting LaBatte Simmentals. We’ve since continued
purchasing and breeding cattle we think will advance our program. Brenda and I were married in 1975 and
have two children. Our son Lynlee and his wife, Hayley, have three sons, Brodyn, Jory and Zayne. Our
daughter Janalee and her husband, Tim (DeBruyne), operate their own farm 25 miles from our place. They
have three daughters, Emry, Jenna and Sierra.

BREEDING PHILOSOPHIES
Simmental genetics are very popular with the commercial producer, feedlot operator and packing plants
these days. They are very high in maternal traits, have superior performance in the feedlot, have
excellent carcass value, and superior dispositions. LaBatte Simmentals strives to produce functional,
productive and profitable seed stock for our commercial customers and the beef industry. Our breeding
philosophy emphasizes performance, fertility, ease of fleshing, disposition, calving ease, and udder
quality, along with the ability to wean a heavy calf under range conditions, year after year. These
naturally thick, heavily-muscled, deep bodied cattle that flesh easy and gain rapidly, are simply the
most efficient, functional and profitable cattle in the industry. Our herd bulls have been sourced from
across North America, and can be viewed by clicking on the "Sires" link at the top right of this page.

Please join us on Friday, March 6, 2026
for the LaBatte Simmentals 46th Annual Bull Sale at Johnstone Auction Mart, Moose Jaw
— Featuring 90 Red, Black & Full Blood Bulls and 10
Open Heifers —
The 2026 LaBatte Bull Sale will be our 46th annual sale, held with guest East Poplar Simmentals.
Our production sales are located at Johnstone Auction Mart, Moose Jaw, SK, and online with DLMS.
We take pride in offering functional, productive, and profitable genetics. Private treaty and
embryo sales continue to be an important part of our marketing program.
LaBatte Simmentals is home to an exceptional group of sires, each chosen for their outstanding
genetic traits. Our commitment to quality ensures that every animal in our herd benefits from the
best in health and performance, solidifying our reputation as leaders in Simmental breeding.
We are pleased to announce the purchase of half-interst and half-possession in
the exciting homozygous polled Fullblood Fleckvieh bull Sunny Valley Canon. We
had watched him mature into a powerful, very complete, homo polled, fullblood
bull that the industry "has been waiting for". He is so loose made, deep-bodied,
thick, structurally correct and stylish. We thank Murray Hoegle for the exciting
opportunity to purchase part of him. We look forward to using Canon in our
program and having a selection of his polled sons to offer to our customers.
Labatte Simmentals, Westwood Land & Cattle and Oberle Bros., teamed up to
purchase the $48,000 56U bull at the 2009 Springcreek Simmental Bull Sale. He
has developed into a long, stout, attractive bull that has worked well in the
pastures of all his owners. He sires calves with the eye appeal, stoutness, and
growth to make them very merchandisable and useful to the industry.
We are pleased to be able to offer 56U sons that are among the features at our
bull sales. The top selling red and black bulls in 2012 were both sons of 56U.
His 10 sons sold for an average of right at $13,000. Some of the first 56U
daughters we sold were available in the female portion of the 2012 sale
including the second top seller at $7,750.
56U sons and daughters have continued to be popular with our customers. In our
2014 Bull Sale, 9 sons sold averaging $6,528 with a top of $14,000.
As the 56U daughters came into production, they caught the industry's attention
by proving capable of producing sons and daughters that are highly sought after.
In our 2016 Bull & Female Sale the six sons out of 56U daughters averaged
$25,666. Plus a 56U daughter produced our top selling female at $19,000.
In our 2018 Bull Sale, two Spark Plug sons of our flush cow IPU 52N Ms.
Pocahontas 2Y, a daughter of 56U, sold for $23,000 and $18,000.
56U has definitely earned a place in our herdbull battery and we look forward to
continuing to offer his progeny to the industry.
